The name " THE FLAT" ?

My blog name "The Flat" came from the small rough town in central Texas. (The Flat being the actual name of the city). Today even in ruins, The Flat retains its hard-won reputation for being one of Texas' most lawless communities. Back in the 1870's it was populated mainly of the "whos who" of western outlaws. The Flat had no municipal control and had yet to be organized. The misbehavior in the Flat got so out of hand that the commanding officer of Fort Griffin declared martial law in the 1873. The unwanted inhabitants were banished to towns that were short of their kind. And with the riff-raf gone the city was organized in 1874.

The roster of trouble-makers included: Lottie Deno, Big Nose Kate (Doc Holliday's significant), John Wesley Hardin, as well as Pat Garret, Doc Holliday and his long time friend Wyatt Earp. (if you have the time I would google some of these names, they are quite interesting)



In relation to the site's content, The Flat's old world style and unique character of its history, is similar to the stories told through the pieces you will see on this site. Essentially, the rough and rustic tones and personalities in each piece of furniture are all little outlaws making they're mark :).

I hope you enjoy my blog, as I must admit Im learning as I go. This is a field that I have a great deal of interest in and hopefully along the way you can see more of what goes on at War Horse Furniture as well as being better informed on what is in demand in the world of reclaimed wood furniture.
